A little creature from my imagination: a round face with two big, glossy eyes and a tiny mouth, framed by a dark spiky hood dotted with bubbles. Beside it stands a small checkered mirror on an ornate stand, a few little crystals lie on the ground, and the creature has furry clawed feet and a spotted body that ends in a big spiral tail.

The whole drawing is made with one black BIC ballpoint pen in a hardbound Canson sketchbook. It starts with very light pen lines, then the eyes are worked out, the outlines are darkened and the dark areas and patterns are built up with layers of pen shading – a good example of how to shade with a ballpoint pen.
