Colored Pencil on Black Paper: Sun God "Sol Invictus" — Marah Maitale Art

Sol Invictus, the "unconquered sun" of Roman mythology, drawn as a welcome to summer. A calm sun face with closed eyes sits in a crown of flaming rays, and below it grows a body made of leaf shapes, spirals and chevron patterns, all glowing against the black page of a small Sakura sketchbook.

The drawing starts with a white pencil sketch of the face and rays, followed by white details with a gel pen. Then the red Polychromos lines come in, the whole figure is colored in red and golden yellow, and the last minutes add yellow stars and little dots around the sun god. On black paper the colors look like they are lit from within.

There is no voice-over, only the drawing process and calm music. A short version of this drawing is on the channel as a Short. More drawings are in the sketchbook drawings collection.
