This figure was drawn from imagination in my sketchbook. A woman with long, wavy hair stands in a draped, off-shoulder gown that falls softly to the ground, while a dark curtain with a wavy hem hangs beside her, like a scene from a half-remembered dream.

It is a black and white drawing: the first lines are made with a 0.7 mm mechanical pencil, and the deep shadows of the curtain and the folds of the dress are built up with a Faber-Castell Pitt charcoal pencil. Blending stumps soften the shading, and a kneaded eraser lifts out the lighter areas in the face, hair and fabric.

The video is sped up, so you can see the whole drawing come together in about seven and a half minutes. There is no voice-over, only calm music, so you can draw along in your own sketchbook or simply relax and watch.
