Surreal face drawing with graphite pencil – one round face split in two: a big staring eye and bare teeth on one side, a soft lashed eye and a wide smile on the other, with a spiky crown on top. Drawn in real time in my Canson sketchbook with calm music, no talking.

One round face, two characters. On the left a big, staring eye sits above a row of bare, blocky teeth; on the right a soft eye with long lashes looks out above a wide, friendly smile. Both halves share one mouth line, and a spiky crown of little blocks and points rises from the top of the head. The whole drawing grows in real time on one page of my Canson sketchbook.
It is drawn with an HB graphite pencil and a 0.7 mm mechanical pencil for the crisp outlines and small details like the teeth and lashes. The soft gradients on the cheeks and the round chin are smoothed with a blending stump, and a kneaded eraser lifts out the highlights in the eyes. Dark outlines against light, blended shading are what make the two halves read as one strange, solid face.
There is no voice-over, only calm music, so you can draw along at your own pace or simply watch the shading build up. Surreal faces are a good exercise in drawing from imagination: start with a simple circle, then let each half become something different. More drawings from imagination are in the sketchbook drawings.
