Johanna Basford Enchanted Forest Coloring: The Lion — Marah Maitale Art

The Lion is one of the most striking pages in Enchanted Forest: An Inky Quest and Coloring Book by Johanna Basford. A proud lion face with swirling patterns stares straight at you, its mouth open and its mane made of flame-like leaves, framed by a wreath of ivy, vines and tiny bell flowers. This video is a collab with June, the colorist behind the YouTube channel June's Colors – her version of the same page is shown at the end of the video.

The page is colored with Faber-Castell Polychromos colored pencils. The lion's face gets warm layers of cream, cadmium yellow and dark cadmium orange, deepened with dark red, raw umber and walnut brown for a fiery, glowing mane. The leaves around it go from light green and leaf green to dark phthalo green, with small touches of magenta and mauve.
